WHAT SOLAR REBATES ARE AVAILABLE IN REGIONAL NSW?

If you’re thinking about getting solar panels, there are a number of rebates available that you might be eligible for and could save you $1,000s off your system.   

Empowering Homes Solar Battery Loan Offer

The NSW Government will help homeowners in eligible postcodes access interest-free loans to install solar battery systems. These systems provide clean, renewable energy and can help you cut your energy bills.

Through this offer, you can get an interest-free loan of up to:

• $14,000 towards a solar PV and battery system (repayable over a range of terms up to 8 years), or

• $9000 towards retrofitting a battery system to an existing solar PV system (repayable over a range of terms up to 10 years).

Solar for Low Income Households

The Solar for low income households trial enables eligible households to access affordable clean energy by providing them free 3kW solar systems.

These free solar systems can help to cut household electricity bills by up to $600 per year. Eligible households must meet specific criteria and reside in one of the five trial regions: Central Coast, North Coast, Sydney – South, Illawarra – Shoalhaven and South Coast. 

Small-scale renewable engery scheme

This scheme offers individuals and small businesses an incentive to install eligible small-scale renewable energy systems like solar panel systems, solar water heaters and air source heat pumps.  

It does this through the creation of small-scale technology certificates which Renewable Energy Target liable entities* have a legal obligation to buy and surrender to the Clean Energy Regulator. 

Small-scale technology certificates are provided ‘up front’ by the installer. This certificate provides a projection for the what the newly installed systems’ expected power generation may be over a 15-year period. This renewable electricity will replace electricity generated from non-renewable sources.  

Householders who purchase these systems assign the right to create their certificates to an agent/installer in return for a lower purchase price.  

*Renewable Energy Target liable entities are an individual or company who make acquisitions of electricity on a grid which has an installed capacity of 100 megawatts or more. They are usually electricity retailers.
